Turn The Party On With Hedi, Celine Spring Summer 2019 at Paris Fashion Week
September 28, 2018, Hotel des Invalides. A crowd of guests and curious onlookers stop because everyone knew that it would be the most anticipated parade of Paris. Indeed, a mastodon of glass and black metal proudly displayed the name of the house – which in passing lost its acute accent, a signature by Hedi SLIMANE as the shortcut for SAINT LAURENT. The letters are illuminated at nightfall, as if to celebrate the opening of a nightclub reserved for the beautiful world.
Lady GAGA, Karl LAGERFELD, Virgil ABLOH and Catherine DENEUVE were Front Row and were harassed by the violent flashes of the photographers. The handsome fashion press world was of course present: Tim BLANKS and Imran AHMED from BUSINESS OF FASHION, Suzy MENKES, Anna dello RUSSO to Carine ROITFELD to see the first collection of Hedi SLIMANE just back in the CELINE home to replace Phoebe PHILO. We are plunged into the dark, until the guests take their places and spotlights illuminate men of the Republican Guard who opened the show with a drum roll, before a huge black sliding panel, gently reveals a wall of glittering mirrors that illuminates the darkness with metallic highlights that reveal the first silhouette of the new CELINE era. We recognize the SLIMANESQUE signature, a little black dress with white polka dots adorned with an XXL bow and leather boots.
The designer imposes herself and reveals the first menswear looks in the history of CELINE. These pieces are offered for unisex: all-black tuxedos with very well fitted jackets and pants, a flawless fall to the ankle, which are worn with thin ties and black profiled
glasses as accessories. Hedi SLIMANE also offers color and sparkle, to party with the abundance of rhinestones and sequins, found on an air velvet mini dress ideal for dancing or draped dresses fully embroidered with red sequins, as if to metaphorize the curtains of decorations of nightclubs of the disco years.
The color is contrasted in a festive way: a quilted bomber made of crocodile textured leather, takes metallic vibes or is adorned with a cover of sequins for a Couture look, to sparkle until the end of the night. There are also more architectural silhouettes such
as a blazer cut under the bust, with shoulder pads larger than life, which harmonizes with a strapless dress’ cascading tulle. The blazer takes XXL arched shoulders, on an ultra-short dress adorned with draping games.
A cloak for MILLENIALS, customers who had deserted the CELINE home under Phoebe Philo, who like Paris by Night with a revolt, with inspiration from the disco and in particular the Palace, one of the most trendy Parisian nightclubs in the 1980’s and who had
recovered from her ashes, since Hedi SLIMANE had celebrated her 50th birthday this year. This is a collection that will be able to make its own publicity because of the debate created on social networks to express the Phoebe PHILO come back.

Moon Choi Fall Winter 2019 during New York Fashion Week
Moon Choi decided to have her self-named brand headquartered in New York, a very popular choice for many fashion labels. She graduated with a BFA from Parsons School of Design, one of the top fashion schools in New York City. Being a more recent graduate, designer Choi has only had her label for 3 years. After college she gained experience working at 3.1 Phillip Lim.
For her Fall Winter 2019 collection she has decided to give a fashion presentation instead of a runway show. This season she gave us the impression of minimalism with using natural color tones and without using jewles or embelishments on the pieces. She presented looks for both men and women as many of the pieces in the collection are unisex. Choi put a lot of time, attention and detail into each of her pieces. Each look is well thought out and flows together nicely. The designer is known for impeccable tailoring, so she of course showed this talent off in the collection. Shoulder pads were added to several of the pieces to make stronger silhouettes. The collection had elements of masculinity and femininity that flowed together. These features added plain details to the looks and contributed to the minimal theme while still making the collection feel high end and designer.

Romeo Hunte Fall Winter 2019 during New York Fashion Week
Designer Romeo Hunte was raised in Brooklyn, New York. Growing up, living in New York, knowing he wanted to work in fashion and become a designer, he of course chose to attend the top fashion school in the United States, The Fashion Institute of Technology. While working as a personal shopper, in 2014 he launched his self named brand. Celebrities like Zendaya, Beyoncé, Victor Cruz, Laverne Cox and Hailey Baldwin are all fans of Hunte, his brand and designs.
The most fun thing about the show was a couple models who were seen holding dogs and carrying them down the runway. Presenting not only womenswear, Hunte also presented several menswear looks. Colors of red, pink, purple, orange, blue denim, khaki, white, black and brown were used. Snake skin, furs and leathers were added throughout the collection which made it feel luxurious and high end. What I loved most about this collection is Hunt presented to us exactly what we want to wear in the fall. It was realistic and relatable. Fringe details were added to overalls, pants and tops, which added a fun and playful twist on a classic item. Our favorite part of the collection was the trendy and stylish outerwear, something Hunte is known for.

Luxurious Knit Collection at Maria Aristidou Fall Winter 2018 during Haute Couture Fashion Week
Maria Aristidou Fall Winter18 Haute Couture Collection, Serendipity, originated from her desire to be different from the rest. While other Haute Couture shows at Paris Fashion Week revealed collections with ritzy gowns, Maria Aristidou focused on simplicity. The casualness in her designs defied the rules of Haute Couture and created a serendipitous mood.
This collection of classic basics was crafted from luxurious knit fabrics and inspired by geometric shapes. The pattern was repeated in vertical rows on many of the dresses. Other practical looks included jumpsuit, tops, skirts, pants and jackets. These simple shapes in traditional colors of black, gray, olive, green, brown and red are couture designs we can actually wear on a regular basis.
What especially stood out were the details: Peter-Pan collars, ruffles outlining plunging necklines, scalloped-hems and the hint of adornment on the waists and collars. We loved the black architectural-shaped collared dress with jewel adornment at the front. The adornment is perfect for the office to social event without having to change. It’s ideal for the busy fashion executive or uptown girl always on-the-go and looking for versatility in her wardrobe.
As our schedules get busier, we need versatile fashions that can keep up with our fast-paced lifestyles. This luxurious knit collection of classic basics with style and ease is exactly what the modern-sophisticated woman needs.

Xuan Spring Summer 2018 during Haute Couture Fashion Week
The Dutch-Vietnamese designer Xuan-Thu Nguyen held another runway show for her Spring Summer 2018 collection. With this being couture, the brand is of course based in Paris while strategically choosing to do production in both France and Holland. Born in Vietnam but raised in the Netherlands, Xuan-Thu grew up in the fashion industry since her parents were owners of a textile business. She got her start by learning at the Charles Montaigne Fashion Institute in Amsterdam. Not always has the brand gone by the name Xuan; it used to be called Xuan-Thu Nguyen. In 2008 she presented her first haute couture collection in Paris, France. Xuan-Thu’s Spring Summer 2017 Couture show was a memorable hallmark because for the first time she showed her collection apart of Fédération de la Haute Couture.
This season’s presentation included eleven looks made using a small color palette of black, white and pastel blue and a very washed out pink. Flower details were a common theme seen throughout the collection. White flowers were placed over the shoulder of a black dress and black flowers scattered across on the arms and body of a short black dress with white pockets on the bottom front. This collection is darker and romantic while still having a sense of lightness and air to it.
